We operate a Book Rental Scheme in Scoil Mocheallóg The book rental scheme is available in all classes from 3rd to 6th for text books. Naturally, workbooks are not included in the book rental scheme as they are not reusable from year to year.
Currently the scheme offers the following:
From 3rd to 6th classes -the text books for English, Mathematics, Gaeilge, Religion, SESE andEnglish Novels as listed on the booklist.
In June each year, parents are offered the opportunity to opt into rental scheme for the following September. Money is collected at this time. This simply allows the Book Rental coordinators to plan for the numbers of children who will require books the following September. The cost to the parents for book rental scheme in 2018/2019 school year was as follows;
€40 to register (pupils going into 3rd class)
For children already registered 0€35 approx.
It is essential for the on-going operation of the book rental scheme that all parents and children commit to the proper care of the books in their possession for the year. This includes:
Book Care
- When putting books and copies into the schoolbag, the copy can be with the book, but not in between the pages of the book as this puts pressure on the spine of the textbook.
- When putting a book into the schoolbag the spine should go in first as this protects the pages of the text book.
- There is no writing allowed on rented textbooks.
- The corner of pages must not be folded down as bookmarks.
- Books which are returned in a non-rentable condition, or books lost, must be replaced and the cost borne by the renter.
- Food and drinks should be kept away from books in the scheme to avoid staining.
Parents sign a form committing to looking after the books and bearing the cost of lost or damaged books.
Naturally normal wear and tear is allowed.
Book Rental Funds
- An account of the book rental expenditure is presented annually at a Board of Management meeting.
- The funds raised by the Book Rental Scheme are intended for the purchase and maintenance of the stock of rental books and lodged in the main school account and a separate record is maintained for the scheme.
The Book Rental co-ordinators are: the Principal, Deputy Principal, Judith Herbert, Sinead Clifford and the Treasurer of the B.O.M
